Basic Information:
  • If Loving David Is Wrong, I Don't Want To Be Wright DAVID WRONGZ!In case you've been living under a rock for the past 24 hours, David Wright is a Met for the long haul thanks to an 8 year, $138 million contract extension, which is now the largest in franchise history. According to sources, Wright specifically asked for the majority of money to be in the middle of the deal, so as to allow flexibility for the team at the front end and back end. Obviously, this deal is excellent news for the Mets' immediate future but we all know that this cannot be it, as there's still plenty of work to be done to make the Mets into a contender. At the least, the deal gives the Mets some needed credibility after last year's Jose Reyes debacle. The only issue holding up an official announcement is the fact that Wright can't take his physical because he's in Jacksonville for teammate Daniel Murphy's wedding. While we wait, take a gander at these pertinent David Wright stats from ESPN Stats & Info.Meet the MetsWith Wright all taken care of, the focus turns to R.A. Dickey's situation. Reports on Friday continued to indicate that Dickey would be willing to sign a two-year extension and that the Mets are confident they can get something done. With the Winter Meetings beginning on Monday, however, you can't rule out the possibility of getting blown away by a trade offer. The team said goodbye to three of its players on Friday, officially non-tendering Mike Pelfrey, Andres Torres, and Manny Acosta. All three players could be useful depth if brought back but that outcome seems somewhat unlikely for Pelfrey https://www.nymgear.com/edwin-diaz-jersey.In other pre-Winter Meetings news, rumor has it that the Mets will still look toward the free agent market to fill holes Francisco Lindor Jersey, rather than the trade market. At Fangraphs, Dave Cameron reasonably argues that the Mets are not that far away from legitimately contending. Interesting that the Braves would give up on Hanson so quickly.Houston claimed former Met prospect Phil Humber off of waivers from the White Sox. After a strong 2011 and a perfect game earlier this year with the ChiSox, Humber's odyssey seemed to be over but he was unbelievably awful post-perfecto. A decent gamble for Houston, at least. The hunt for former Met Angel Pagan is heating up, as both the Giants and now the Phillies have handed him four-year contract offers.Joe Strauss has the story of former big leaguer Chris Duncan, who is dealing with a malignant brain tumor, which was discovered after he had a seizure in September.MLB released their annual drug report yesterday. The league is looking to make changes to the posting system for Japanese players.
