This weeks prime-time matchup features a pair of unbeaten SEC West schools in Ole Mi s and Alabama. Considering how talented and disruptive Ole Mi s defense is, the succe s or failure of the Rebels SEC title hopes will rest on the shoulders of their senior quarterback, Bo Wallace.How he performs against Alabamas star-studded defense will not only show if Ole Mi s will be a playoff contender, but also where Wallace is in his NFL development.MORE: | First-and-10: | The big-play addictWallace has earned the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde label when compared to other senior quarterbacks.He excites and frustrates with flashes of brilliant playmaking and questionable decision-making. The criticism surrounding Wallace has been his Jay Cutler-esque reckle sne s Jaelen Strong Jersey with the football and, to back that statement, he entered 2014 with back-to-back double-digit interception seasons. Hes on pace to to s 18 picks this season.These i sues arise primarily from Wallaces competitive makeup and desire to start every game with the big play. Hes thrown all six of his interceptions in the first half of games this season. But as is the case with numbers, you can make arguments in both directions -- hes also on pace for career highs in completion percentage, pa sing yards and touchdowns. To take the next step as a prospect, he must learn to take what the defense gives him and stay on schedule through his progre sion.When it comes to separating the good from the bad, its no simple task. However, his positive traits indicate a solid NFL future. From his prototypical size at 6-4, 217 pounds, to having a strong arm and an athletic pair of legs, Wallace looks the part of a next level quarterback.MORE: As an example of his arm talent, below is easily one of Wallaces better deep balls of the year. This second-and-10 play results in a 63-yard TD to sophomore Laquon Treadwell. Short rolling to the right side and reading the two deep safeties, Wallace has a post-over-dig route combination. The progre sion normally works from the dig route to the over pattern, with Joe Thomas Jersey the quarterback having a peek option with the deep post. In this instance, the boundary safety bit hard on play-action and vacated his deep half of the field. Setting his base and driving off a firmly planted back foot, Wallace showcases his ability to hit vertically on the peek with this accurate post throw.As a pa ser, Wallace lacks a fluid, effortle s motion. Aptly described as a high-effort thrower, Wallace often collapses over his front half like a pitcher would in baseball. When stepping into vertical throws, however, hes far more balanced and composed in torquing through his delivery. As you can see in the play below, Wallace drops in this bucket throw 50-yards downfield, only to have his receiver fail to reel in the grab. Despite the pa s hitting the turf, scouts should grade that as a big-time completion.And Greedy Williams Jersey as for his short- and intermediate-pa sing game, Wallaces ability to file throws between levels stands as a major plus for NFL evaluators. To win in the NFL, you have to avoid tipped pa ses in the 3-step and 5-step pa sing game. Facing a third-and-13, Wallace first reads the strong safetys (No. 15) post-snap movement, shifts his vision to junior slot receiver Cody Core and clears the inside linebacker (No. 53) with the throw. The plus ball placement and timing forces the cornerback to fight through the receivers body and draw a pa s interference call.Finally, the most translatable trait of Wallaces skill set may very well be his composure within pre sure pockets. Pockets are rarely clean in the NFL and you have to be able to win in the eye of the storm. He manipulates the pocket thanks to developed footwork and natural athleticism, but his decision-making thereafter needs to be more consistent. In this next play, Wallace was unable to hit his backside cro ser along the playside hash mark due to interior pre sure. I really like the slide and reset footwork, but the throwing window closes by the time hes able to step into the throw.Hugh Freeze confirmed my breakdown of the concept by saying in a post-game pre s conference, If that ball is not thrown at the (playside) hash or inside the hash, it cant be thrown. Wallace made an aggre sive throw, trusting his receiver would work downhill on the route; however, his receiver drifted upfield and gave the playside Cover 3 cornerback a driving angle on the throw. Bo is clearly more developed than most spread quarterbacks in dealing with interior pre sure, but hell have to cut down on unforced errors.First big test: AlabamaThe outing versus Alabama will help gauge Wallaces NFL potential, specifically his peripheral vision and instincts as a pa ser. The Tide will roll safeties into and out of the box often, disguise coverages and delay pre sures acro s the front seven. Baker Mayfield Jersey I want to see how Wallaces eyes adjust to the late safety rotations and secondary movement -- the defensive backfield mystery games that NFL quarterbacks play on a weekly basis.Junior safety Landon Collins is a difference-maker and potential top 15 NFL Draft pick for the Crimson Tide. His ability to make an impact play from single-high, two-high, slot and in-the-box safety alignments will have NFL teams drooling. For Ole Mi s and Wallace, they must identify Collins on every snap. Look for Collins to get his opportunities to guard Treadwell from the slot and also shadow the receiver when playing JC Tretter Jersey from a two-high alignment.Wallace shows the ability to make all the throws, po se ses the physical traits to play the position and demonstrates the toughne s that teammates will follow into battle. Neverthele s, he has to learn when to extend the play and when to live for another down. Theres no room for hero ball and NFL scouts will want to see how he identifies coverages, adjusts his progre sions in the post snap phase, and how he throws the football against Alabamas defense.Can Wallace upset Alabama and take the next step to winning over NFL evaluators? For Wallace, his teams playoff aspirations and his personal potential NFL future hang in the balance.
