Diablo 4 currently lacks a specific release date, but it's expected to drop at some point in the first quarter of 2023. It appears Diablo 4 fans who D2R Items are looking forward to finding out when they'll be playing the game ought to tune into The Game Awards in December.
Diablo 4's world allows players to move on and pick up the story whenever they want, but while it will "allow for non-linearity", the story will include "a beginning and a middle as well as an end".
An interview on IGN, Diablo 4 director Joe Shely and general manager Rod Fergusson opened up on what the new adventure has to offer to fans of Diablo, as well being able to give a glimpse into how the story techniques will differ from Diablo games that came before it.
"One of the issues with having 'open-world' displayed in an enormous neon and flashing it is that people will be able to get that idea of Breath of Wildness or 'oh it's totally natural and I'm able to travel anywhere and do anything'," Fergusson said, as the transcript was provided by NME.
"That's not really our story. Our story allows for non-linearity however, it is an idea of a story. We wanted to have an beginning, middle, and a conclusion.
"You do not have to explore the story long and that's one of the great things about the world that is open," Fergusson added. "There's a lot of side-quests, lots of options not on the golden path."
