    • In a recent conversation with 4Gamer (translated via Nintendo Everything), Triangle Strategy producer Tomoya Asano spoke about the graphic style, and the manner in which it's being D2R Items implemented in the next games for the company. As the interviewer was surprised that more indie titles haven't adopted the style, Asano revealed the reason being that it's pretty expensive!

"It's important to note that it's more expensive than you'd expect. In this regard, it's an excellent match for the titles that you'd expect from Square Enix. There's likely to be little to gain from copying other companies," Asano told 4gamer.Fortunately, that cost isn't stopping Square Enix from releasing more games in this fashion.

One of the remakes for Live a Live is set to launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch in July, while a remake version of Dragon Quest III is currently working on. There are plenty of other games which could benefit from this look, and it'll be interesting to find out which games Square Enix does with HD-2D in the coming years. Although the company has certainly invested in this design style, Asano went on to clarify that there isn't any actual "definitive text," and it will be evolving as games change.

"We don't have something similar to that. The way in which it's written differs from title to title, so the HD-2D-style will differ slightly from time to time. For Live A Live for example The atmosphere of the prehistoric part will be different from the sci-fi settings.

The range of expression we offer has been widened by the innovative concepts we've come up with. "While the cost might be prohibitive for certain developers, HD-2D has clearly become a huge draw for a lot of gamers. Hopefully, we'll continue to be able to see Square Enix find new ways to extend the look with a variety of games to be released D2R Ladder Items!
