Basic Information:
  • What is the one thing that every wig wearer has to be concerned about? It is important to consider whether or not other people can detect that you are wearing a wig. Whether you're at the grocery store, there's nothing worse than worrying if everyone is gazing at you because they recognize your hair as not being yours. First and first, you should be aware that they are most likely not gazing at you at all (there is a half-price discount on paper towels just behind your head, Carol). Second, whether or not others can tell that you are wearing a wig is dependent not only on the quality of your wig, but also on how well you care for it once you have purchased it.

What You Should Know About Wigs Maintenance

Read on for advice on how to maintain wig looking fresher, fuller, and more natural for longer periods of time than ever before.

    1. Reduce the frequency with which you use your wig.
We're not suggesting you shouldn't wear a wig on a daily basis. We're implying that you shouldn't wear the same wig on a daily basis. Wearing a wig is similar to wearing a little black dress. When the color fades, the threads begin to run, and the general look deteriorates, it is called a "fading."

If you use wigs on a regular basis, you might want to try purchasing two wigs and wearing them alternately. The less times you wear your wig, the longer its lifespan will be. Aside from that, rotating your wigs will help you to properly care for them on your "off" days as well.

    2. Shampoo your hair...but not too frequently.
You don't need us to tell you that washing your hair too frequently can cause it to dry out, become brittle, and lose its luster.

A similar statement may be made about wigs, both synthetic and human hair wigs. If you're rotating your wigs, you should be able to go several days without washing them. If you just have one wig, you should wait a few days between washings to ensure that your wig retains its natural sheen.

    3. You spent a lot of money on your wig; spend even more money on high-quality items to keep it looking excellent.
You know it, we know it, and your stylist is well aware of it. Even your spouse, who claims to be ok with Pert and has been covertly using your shampoo for the last 25 years, is aware of it.

When it comes to wig life, it is important to use shampoos and conditioners that are specifically made for wigs. Traditional shampoos and conditioners include harsh chemicals that can permanently harm your wig, and unlike natural hair, wig hair does not mend itself over time.

    4. Become familiar with proper wig cleaning practices.
The days of massaging shampoo into your head are over. Your wig will become brittle as a result of this, and you will have to purchase a new one sooner than you would want.
When it comes to washing your wigs, follow these guidelines:

THE FIRST STEP Soak your wig in soapy water for a few minutes to remove any residue. Then, using a gentle comb, comb the shampoo through your hair. Never press or massage the substance into the wig as this may cause residue to build up, clumping your wig hair and perhaps causing irreparable harm.

THE SECOND STEP Rinse the wig gently with clean, warm (not hot) water and comb it through well. Repeat this procedure until all of the soap has been used up.

THE THIRD STEP Steps one and two should be repeated with your conditioning product.

THE FOURTH STEP Use a detangling brush to detangle your wig as soon as possible after it is curled.

THE FIFTH STEP Allow your hair to air dry. Never use a hair dryer on your wig since it will damage it. A human hair or heat-friendly synthetic wig will be irreparably damaged, and a synthetic wig will be entirely melted by the hot air.
